I know I’ve said it before, but this is my FAVORITE time of year. I love everything about it. I love that I can start getting out my favorite sweaters and hoodies, my heels can finally heal up from having run around barefoot all summer long, the sound of rustling leaves and wind, the birds all stirred up and chirping wildly as they plan for their migration to the south, all of it charms my senses. We are blessed to have so many trees on our property and it’s a daily joy to see which one has begun to turn orange (not a color everyone likes but I do…I like to look at it AND wear it). Some are even turning a brilliant red. And to see the reflection in our pond is literally breathtaking. What beauty! What kindness of the Lord to bring us (and my parents) to this lovely place! We are overwhelmed.
But alas it will soon be Winter and everything will be stark and bare. I also love Winter though, for different reasons. Winter for us is about traditions. We love cutting down our own Christmas tree, decorating, doing a daily advent activity through the month of December (to always keep before our kids the Reason for the season), and generally just enjoying making family memories. Snow usually plays a role here too. You can’t make snow angels without snow. And if what I’ve heard is accurate, we will have plenty to make snow angels with here.
So I was talking about how much I love Fall and got sidetracked. My mother-in-law will be here next week and we are looking forward to showing her around our new area. She’s actually somewhat familiar with this area having had a friend of the family that she’s visited a few times. But we’ll show her some places she hasn’t yet seen and she can show us some places she’s enjoyed in the past. We’re all looking forward to her trip. She loves the Fall too and there isn’t much Fall to enjoy in Arizona. I mean, people decorate for the Fall, Michael’s sells all the same Fall decorations they sell here, and it’s kind of a pseudo-Fall (or is it simply pretending?), but with the temperatures still hanging around 90 degrees, it isn’t REALLY Fall. When we lived in New York, she would always come this time of year to see the Fall color. She grew up in upstate New York and loves the real New England kind of Fall as opposed to the Arizona make-believe kind of Fall.
Okay, so I’ve rambled on and on about Fall. I told you I loved it. I could continue, but I’ll save it for another post. I still haven’t figured out the picture thing on here (honestly I haven’t even tried yet – it’s probably really simple and I know my friend Laurie will be happy to show me). If I get some, I’ll try to post them. Our church has a Fall Festival this Saturday and then we’re going to Circleville, OH for a pumpkin festival next week. We ought to get some good pictures out of that.
So until my next post, enjoy the beauty and riches of the Fall season…and eat a carmel apple for me.
Fellow Fall Fan here
